Look-Smell-Taste Date Labelling InitiativeTRUST YOUR SENSES, REDUCE FOOD WASTE
Too Good To Go’s Look-Smell-Taste label helps remind people that a product past its ‘Best Before’ date could still be good to eat. You can trust your senses: simply look, smell and taste, before you waste.
How does it work?
40% of Canadians throw out foodpast its Best Before date at least once a week.
What is the difference between Before Before and expiration dates?
The expiration date, found only on certain foods with strict nutritional specifications, is about food safety. Food should not be consumed after the expiration date.
The Best Before date indicates how long a properly stored unopened food will keep its optimal quality such as freshness and taste. Often food can still be safely consumed after the Best Before date.
We launched our Look-Smell-Taste initiative to encourage people to trust their senses when assessing if Best Before products are still good to consume even past the date, avoiding unnecessary food waste at home.

With the Look-Smell-Taste initiative, we aim to reduce unnecessary waste in households. Our Look-Smell-Taste label is a gentle reminder to trust your senses: if a Best Before-labelled food has been stored correctly, and looks, smells, and tastes okay, then it’s perfectly safe to consume.
