Did you know that nearly 30% of the world's agricultural land is currently occupied to produce food that is never consumed? You Won't Believe: The Land We Waste
One of the biggest questions we'll have to face is "how are we going to feed the world in 2050?". Many think of this as an issue of lacking the land resources to produce enough food, however, as a true Waste Warrior you probably know that a third of all the food globally produced is being wasted. In the US, it's even more at 40%. What is perceived by many as a "lack of space” issue, in reality, is an issue of wasting land in order to produce food that will go on to be wasted.
According to FAO (2013), nearly 30% of the world's agricultural land is currently occupied to produce food that is ultimately never consumed. And the more food that we waste, the more food we need to produce. It's a vicious cycle that ultimately puts additional pressure on the environment and the Earth’s natural resources (LoveFoodHateWaste, 2019).
In a recent episode from our YouTube Global series, you will discover why and how this level of waste occurs, through the connection between our food systems and our Planet.
