Hit the Road With These 4 Eco-Friendly Travel Tips

With Memorial Day Weekend just around the corner and the country opening back up, travel is at the forefront of many of our minds. Whether you’re going to visit friends and family or explore a new city - we’ve got some tips for how to be a Waste Warrior on the road.

Getting around sustainably

Biking is an environmentally friendly way to get around town and see the sights without creating carbon emissions. With all the bike share programs popping up around the country, it’s never been easier. If bikes aren’t for you, get around like a local by using public transportation.

Avoid single-use goods

Depending on where you’ll be staying, consider bringing your own self-care items and a travel mug to eliminate the need for single-use versions. We love Stojo’s collapsable goods which take up very little space when packing, and their mission to eliminate disposable culture. Shampoo bars are also great for travel and require no packaging!

Shop Local

For a unique and sustainable souvenir, research small businesses or shops that carry goods from local makers. Supporting local businesses not only supports the community you're visiting but has a lower environmental impact than purchasing goods that are mass-produced and/or imported.

Fight food waste!

If you’re traveling to New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, DC, San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Seattle, or Portland, use Too Good To Go to discover new shops and restaurants, while helping to fight food waste.

Going somewhere else? If you’re dining out, remember to get your leftovers wrapped up to enjoy later.
