TOO GOOD TO GO AND THE GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP

Boston, MA (November 19, 2020) - Too Good To Go, the app leading the global fight against food waste, today announces its partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England. This will allow Too Good To Go users to make monetary donations to GBFB directly through the app, which will support the non-profit’s mission to provide at least three healthy meals a day to everyone in need - a critical task with the food insecurity rate at an all-time high in Massachusetts.

The partnership brings together the efforts of two like-minded food rescue players to create a more nourished, sustainable world. Through this new app feature, Bostonians can take action against food insecurity and climate change as easily as: 1) Reserving a Surprise Bag pick-up (saving one meal is equivalent to the CO2e of fully charging a smartphone 422 times) and 2) Clicking “Donate” on the app’s homepage to support GBFB. This is an easy, tangible way for Bostonians to make a difference during these uncertain times, especially as we head into a holiday season unlike any other.

“Partnering with the Greater Boston Food Bank was a no-brainer,” said Gaeleen Quinn, Too Good To Go’s East Coast Director. “We have partnerships with hunger-fighting organizations in each of the 15 countries where we operate. To work with an organization that has stayed resilient and distributed nearly 82 million meals in 2020 through the effects Covid-19 is an absolute honor.”

Since the app went live in the U.S. last month, Bostonians and New Yorkers have already saved over 10,000 meals with Too Good To Go, which is equivalent to the carbon footprint of 28 flights between New York and London. Through their efforts, both Too Good To Go and GBFB play a crucial, complementary role in the city’s food rescue ecosystem, driving change on different levels of scale. Too Good To Go connects users with delicious surplus food from cafes, restaurants and grocery stores, while GBFB provides healthy meals to people in need in all 190 cities and towns in Eastern Massachusetts through 600 member agencies and direct service programs.

“The ‘Too Good to Go’ app is a household name in Europe with a proven track record of reducing food waste and helping to fight hunger,” said Carol Tienken, COO at The Greater Boston Food Bank. “We really appreciate that they thought of supporting GBFB’s efforts to alleviate hunger here in Eastern Massachusetts as they introduce their unique and effective program to our area.”

ABOUT TOO GOOD TO GO

Too Good To Go, a certified B Corp, is a tech-for-good company leading the food waste revolution to create a greener planet. Their app connects consumers to surplus food from local restaurants and grocery stores, such as pastries, fresh produce, sushi and more, which would otherwise be thrown away to make room for the next batch of goods. Each meal rescued equates to the CO2e emission of charging one smartphone fully 422 times. Founded in 2016, Too Good To Go has saved over 50 million meals across 15 countries, which adds up to 200 million pounds of food. Beyond the app, Too Good To Go has launched initiatives to change date labeling on food, produced free educational resources for schools and inspired households to change food waste behaviors.
