TOO GOOD TO GO BRINGS FOOD WASTE SOLUTION TO PHILADELPHIA

New York, NY (February 23, 2021) – Too Good To Go, the world’s #1 app for fighting food waste, today announces its official launch in Philadelphia, calling on everyone in the greater Philly area to join the fight against food waste in an easy, fun and impactful way. Since the B Corp’s U.S. launch four short months ago, the app has already amassed 350,000 users and over 1,000 partners in New York City, Boston and Jersey City.

The Too Good to Go mobile app, available for iOS in the Apple store or Google Play for Android, connects surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries and cafes to customers, ensuring delicious food from these eateries isn’t thrown away. Customers can browse participating locations, reserve and pay for a Surprise Bag on the app, then head to the store during the pick-up window, which differs based on each location’s closing time. The contents of each Surprise Bag vary daily, giving stores the flexibility to adjust based on how much surplus there is at the end of each day. The app gives consumers a fun, easy way to live more sustainably, store owners can profit from fresh food that would otherwise be tossed, and everyone is helping the planet (food waste contributes to 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions) - it's a win-win-win. In fact, picking up just one Surprise Bag is equivalent to the carbon footprint of charging one smartphone fully 422 times.

The first partner to join Too Good To Go in Philadelphia was Baology, a beloved eatery in Logan Square that joins the principles of community and sustainability through modern Taiwanese cuisine. “Food is how we express love in Taiwanese culture and we share our love for the community through our menu, featuring local, seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients prepared with care,” said Judy Ni, owner of Baology. “Joining Too Good To Go gives us the opportunity to continue doing our part in building a more sustainable culinary ecosystem.”

Mac Mart, Bakeshop on 20th, Hardena, Rival Brothers, South Philly Food Co-op, Fitz and Startz and many more are among the first wave of Philadelphia establishments to join the food waste revolution. All participating locations can now be found as dots on the Philadelphia map in the app, and are ready for users to start reserving Surprise Bags today.

The app has built strong momentum in its first three cities - folks in New York City, Boston and Jersey City have already saved over 100,000 meals. Following the launch in Philadelphia today, Too Good To Go will launch in Washington, D.C. in March and San Francisco in April, with further plans to be in many of the largest U.S. cities by the end of 2021.

“Philadelphians have been eagerly asking us to come to their city,” said Too Good To Go co-founder Lucie Basch. “We already have an incredible group of partners on board, and we’re excited to make sustainability even more accessible in Philly, one delicious bite at a time.”

Already available in 15 international markets including Paris, London, Copenhagen, Madrid and Amsterdam, Too Good To Go has quickly become the go-to for conscious consumers and businesses around the world, resulting in more than 32 million app downloads and over 60 million meals saved to date.
