PRESS RELEASESToo Good To Go and FareShare announce national partnership
London - 23 March 2021 - Surplus food app, Too Good To Go, and FareShare, the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste, have today announced a new national partnership.
Food waste is both an environmental problem contributing to the acceleration of climate change as well as a social problem. Millions of people in the UK have nothing to eat, while over 2 million tonnes of perfectly edible food goes to waste in the food industry every year.
The national partnership means that Too Good To Go will support and promote the redistribution work carried out by FareShare in order to help more people in the UK get access to food. Thanks to this collaboration, consumers will now have the opportunity to make financial donations of £2, £4 or £6 directly to FareShare, through the Too Good To Go app.
Too Good To Go will also support FareShare appeals throughout 2021 and is also looking to launch an employee volunteering programme, once current restrictions have been lifted.
Jamie Crummie, co-founder of Too Good To Go, said: “It is devastating to see how many people in the UK do not have access to food when so much is going to waste on a daily basis. Too Good To Go is a long-time supporter of FareShare and this new partnership will help the charity to continue its work in fighting hunger and food waste. Collaboration is key in the fight against food waste and I’m looking forward to seeing how much of an impact we can have together moving forward.”
FareShare CEO Lindsay Boswell said: “The support of Too Good To Go, and all our partners, is vital in helping FareShare continue its work throughout the year. It helps FareShare redistribute nutritious good-to-eat waste food to people struggling to get enough to eat, via 11,000 charities and community groups across the UK.. We are really grateful for the support of Too Good To Go, and all its customers who generously donate to FareShare via their app.”
Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from pubs, restaurants, retailers and producers to stop it from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold produce. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

ABOUT TOO GOOD TO GO
Too Good To Go has a simple mission: to make sure all food gets eaten, not wasted.
In 2016, a group of entrepreneurs witnessed restaurant staff throwing away fresh food. The food’s only problem? It hadn’t sold in time, and no one was around to take it off the restaurant’s hands. The group pioneered a seamless solution: an app that lists businesses’ unsold food so local diners can find, buy and enjoy it.
Now, thousands of Magic Bags are rescued from businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries every day. The success of the app powers Too Good To Go’s wider efforts to drive a food waste movement, working with schools, industries and governments to build a planet-friendly food system.

ABOUT FARESHARE
FareShare is the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste – diverting surplus food, which would otherwise go to waste, onto people at risk of hunger via our network of frontline charities and community groups across the UK.
KEY FARESHARE STATS
FareShare provides food to 11,000 charities and community groups in all four nations across the UK – including school breakfast clubs, community centres, homeless shelters and food banks
We provide the equivalent of 2 million meals a week for people who might not otherwise eat
Two thirds of people accessing FareShare food are children and families.
FOOD WASTE AND HUNGER IN THE UK
Over 2 million tonnes of perfectly good to eat food goes to waste by the food industry every year – whilst at the same time, 8.4 million people struggle to access good, nutritious food
We know that surplus food distribution isn't a silver bullet answer to food poverty – but what people should know is that whilst 8 million people in the UK go hungry every year, food equivalent to at least 1.3bn meals is thrown away before it even gets to homes or schools
That food, if handled as we handle food that is sold, would provide the equivalent of 162 meals per year to all 8 million people currently trapped in food insecurity
