PRESS RELEASESToo Good To Go launches Surplus Suppers for Hospitality Action
24 November 2020 - Too Good To Go, the food app with a conscience, is set to launch a series of Surplus Supper Magic Bag meal kits on its app this week in aid of Hospitality Action.
Available for app users to purchase from Wednesday 25th November through to Friday 27 November, the Magic Bags will contain the ingredients needed to cook an extra special meal for two at home. With the menu created by South-West-based Chef Tom Green, and all produce rescued from going to waste from Pale Green Dot and Arthur David, the Surplus Supper meal kits offer the ultimate stay-at-home sustainable meal.
The meal kit will contain the ingredients to cook a three-course meal for one (instructions for which will be found on the Too Good To Go blog):
Starter
Taste of the lakes duck & orange terrine on toast, tomato, madeira, ginger & spring onion dressing
Main
Brie, camembert, ham & onion potato galette, sweet chilli glazed charred savoy cabbage
Pudding
Clotted cream & vanilla custard, berries & biscuit crunch
Surplus Supper Magic Bag meal kits are priced at £5 and all proceeds will be donated to Hospitality Action to help offer vital assistance to those who work, or have worked, in the hospitality industry in the UK.
The Magic Bags will be available to purchase on the app and collect from Cut + Grind in Kings Cross, London between 14:00 and 19:00 on Wednesday 25th, Thursday 26th, and Friday 27th of November.
Jamie Crummie, co-founder of Too Good To Go, said: “This year has brought so many new challenges to the hospitality industry and at Too Good To Go we wanted to support those who have been most affected by the closures this second lockdown. Speaking to Hospitality Action, it was apparent that there is so much support still needed, so we decided to launch our Surplus Supper campaign in a bid to raise some much needed funds for the charity.
“Thanks to our produce suppliers, Pale Green Dot and Arthur David, distribution partner, Cut + Grind, and chef Tom Green, we have put together these Surplus Supper Magic Bags for consumers to buy and enjoy at home - both saving food from going to waste and supporting the hospitality industry at the same time.”
Astrid Wears-Taylor, Fundraising and Events Director, Hospitality Action says “When the year’s first lockdown began in March, Hospitality Action helped many thousands of hospitality households in financial crisis. Just as in March, today millions of hospitality workers can’t go to work, and many thousands have lost their jobs for good. With the traditional Christmas celebrations looking impossible for many hospitality families we’re extremely grateful to Too Good To Go for reaching out and fundraising on our behalf whilst preventing food wastage at the same time.”
Chef Tom Green said: “I’m delighted to have put together a special surplus supper menu for the Too Good To Go Hospitality Action campaign. Working in the hospitality industry I’ve experienced the recent pandemic impacts first hand so, along with Too Good To Go, I’m pleased to have been able to help raise some much needed funds for the charity.”
Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from pubs, restaurants, retailers and producers to stop it from going to waste. Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold produce. They then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

ABOUT TOO GOOD TO GO
Too Good To Go has a simple mission: to make sure all food gets eaten, not wasted.
In 2016, a group of entrepreneurs witnessed restaurant staff throwing away fresh food. The food’s only problem? It hadn’t sold in time, and no one was around to take it off the restaurant’s hands. The group pioneered a seamless solution: an app that lists businesses’ unsold food so local diners can find, buy and enjoy it.
Now, thousands of Magic Bags are rescued from businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries every day. The success of the app powers Too Good To Go’s wider efforts to drive a food waste movement, working with schools, industries and governments to build a planet-friendly food system.
